As parents have children later in life, I am seeing more situations where a parent has a child support obligation when they are also receiving old age social security.  In such cases, that parent’s children are eligible to receive a payment from the social security administration.  More good news, the payment can be offset against that parent’s child support obligation.  Pursuant to Texas Family Code 154.133, child support is calculated by determining  child support according to the guidelines and then subtracted from that amount the money each child receives from social security.  In short, the SSA pays or at a minimum subsidizes the support obligation.
